Hi, my name is Jo, aka Renata Tarnay, and I’m the author of this blog. My interest in fabrics and yarn and what can be made with them began early. I started out doing yarn embroidery and needlepoint, then I graduated to crocheting, which was all the rage in the 70s when I was growing up. When I was a teenager I decided that I wanted to sew my own clothes. I began by making a work skirt for myself out of wool fabric that I bought. I didn’t use a pattern, just winged it! During my sewing journey I taught myself knitting, something I’d wanted to do since I was a little girl and saw a picture of hand knit cardigans in a Mon Tricot knit and crochet magazine. My Dad gave me the magazine to cure my boredom while I was waiting for him to close the store he ran back then. It sparked a continued interest in the fiber arts that’s stayed with me all my life.
A few years ago I took up hand spinning when I moved and didn’t have access to my sewing machine during home renovations. That interest has opened up an entire new world of wool processing and dyeing. I’ve made a lot of posts about it.
My current interest is designing clothing patterns for knitting and sewing. I do that in between making my own wardrobe, knitting new accessories and combing and spinning wool. I always have something I’m working on or planning to work on.
