The Completed Linen Suit: Featuring S9714 & V1986

After re-making the blazer, S9714 by Mimi G, I was finally able to take some pictures of the completed look. My suit is made up of 2 different patterns, from 2 different time eras: S9714, the blazer, is a modern pattern, published in 2023 and Vogue 1986, the pants, is an OOP vintage pattern from 1997. V1986 is by designer Isaac Mizrahi, and was published as part of the Vogue Attitudes collection. Interestingly, both these patterns are suits, but I chose to take 1 piece from each. I’d already made the pants once before, so I had experience with sewing them. The S9714 pants had a zipper fly, which I didn’t want at the time. I wanted a more casual pair of pants for summer.

If you’ve been following my journey on making this suit, I had to take apart and remake the blazer.

You’ve seen the pants and jacket modeled separately, now here they are modeled together, as the suit they were intended to be:

In this next pic I’m adjusting the facing of the lapel, because it tends to roll out from underneath. I pressed it a lot, understitched the entire collar, but it still rolled out.

I had a lot of fun making this suit, and I learned a lot too. A few days after these pics were taken, I came up with a solution to fix the facing: I added another button. It’s hidden on the lower end of the lapel, holding the lapel in place and keeping it from rolling outward. I also think that if I make this blazer again I would do a narrow shoulder adjustment – the shoulders on this jacket are huge. I had to add shoulder pads to fill them out, even after downsizing 2 sizes. I’ll try and make a post showing those alterations.

Although this is a spring/summer jacket, I’ll be wearing it well into the autumn if I can. I have some ideas on how to make it transition to the cold weather.
