Embroidered Jeans: The Finished Look

Now that I finished the embroidery, I can finally wear them again! They’ve been out of circulation in my wardrobe for a few months now, and it’s great to have them back. We had a long awaited sunny Spring day here, so I was able to get out and model these. I paired them with another me made shirt, McCall’s 6752, view A. It’s a unique and fun to wear blouse pattern that I highly recommend. The pattern is probably OOP but is still easy to find on many sites. I first modeled that blouse here when I was in NYC and visited the fabulous Mood Fabrics.

I managed to save a favorite pair of jeans from the landfill. I made the mistake of using a dryer heat setting that was too high, which destroys the elastic in the stretch denim so much that it starts to pucker. When it does that it no longer lies straight and looks very shabby in a non chic way (see this post for a pic). I’ll be drying all my stretch denim on a lower heat setting from now on, or air drying if weather permits. For these I’ll be also turning them inside out first before washing on gentle cycle.

It’s funny that the mistake I made lead me to embark on embroidering my jeans, and that I’m now trying to prevent that from happening again. It’s just that the fabric really does degrade when overheated and I was lucky that I was able to save them this time.

There’s a couple more areas on these where the denim is compromised, just not as badly as the patched area. I’m thinking of trying sashiko stitching to shore that up instead of patching over first. Hopefully I’ll get to that later this year. I have other projects that I need to work on first.

Take care and thanks for reading 🙂
