You could say I’m smitten by this pair of socks that I mended today. I wore them a lot until a hold broke out in the toe and the heels got worn to the netting. They were one of my favorite pairs for a few reasons: soft feel, neutral color, warm and comfy… and they have a nice picot edge on the cuff. They’ve sat around until this mending event, unwearable and out of use.
Today I changed all that. Today I fixed them 💪

Methods, Materials and Tools
For today’s mend I used a darning egg. I like to fasten the sock onto the egg tightly so that it doesn’t slide around while mending. I used a heavy rubber band for that. For the mend itself I chose a double thread approach. I used a single strand of regular sewing thread and a strand of boucle yarn from my stash. It’s Sensations Rainbow Boucle from Joann’s, now discontinued and rarer every day because Joann’s is soon closing it’s doors forever. It’s a tonal colorway of soft white, soft pink, gray and black. I felt that it would be perfect for this mend because of it’s colors and texture. It’ll help restore the pillow feel of the socks.
The double strand method is what I use to mend socks. I used it during last year’s event
The technique I used to mend is weaving, I lashed on a warp and wove a weft in back and forth (see pic a few pics down)

Now I’m really smitten by them! They’re wearable again!
