Tour De Fleece 2024

For this year’s Tour, I washed up the last of my black fleece:

It took a while to comb it out but now I have a lot to spin with:

I wanted to add some fabric inclusions to this spin. It adds color and texture to the yarn and upcycles fabric scraps as well. I chose some leftover red silk from a thrifted blouse. Here’s the spin on the wheel:

I spun the black as a dk weight, and then wound it onto the reel. I’ll be winding it back onto the bobbin but I wanted to see how it looked and take pics of it 🙂

And there was a nice surprise at the end of this spin…my hubby found another bag of black wool in a closet, ( a secret stash!) and brought it up for me:

More black fleece that had been stored away and forgotten until now…I opened the bag and it still smells like the farm…Awaah! It’s a good smell! I touched the wool and it’s greasy, full of lanoliin, so good for the skin.

I really thought what I processed was the last of it but it looks like I’ll be back to sorting and scouring any day now. It’s a good thing because I’d had a special project planned for this black wool and I actually need quite a bit more, like sweater quantity more. The above spin is 48 yds. It’s a good question what sweater quantity actually is, but it’s generally agreed upon that it’s usually 1000-2000 yds/meters. So basically what I’ll be looking to do with this is to keep adding to it I wasn’t sure how I was going to complete my plan without buying more black roving, but now I’ll see as I go along with the new found “secret stash” processing how much yardage I can come up with.

Would you like to see what my project idea is? Please stay tuned to my blog for more updates soon!

Take care and thanks for reading 🙂
