Day 29: Practical – I chose to mend another pair of socks, but this time I used the traditional woven darning method.
This year’s socks were less worn out than the pair I mended last year. Those socks needed a total re-knit to repair the holes. This year’s pair had smaller holes with some of the fabric netting still intact. On closer inspection they appear to be more of a rug like material: cotton fluff that’s been attached to a knit netting:

And the 2nd sock had a larger hole:

I used 2 threads for the mend to help blend to the 2 tone marled color of the sock: a quilting cotton from my Mom’s collection, and a gray sewing machine weight thread, also from her collection:

You can tell that the gray thread is old from the fact that it’s on a wooden spool.
This is my first official woven darning mend. I used a darning egg, and cast on A LOT of warp threads. I was concerned about them bulging, but the weft threads took care of that:

It’s good to get them back for wearing again!
