This is the first actual dyed yarn to come from my home processed fleece. It’s been a long journey to get to this point, and I won’t go on about it, because I already have in previous posts. Today it’s about the finished product.
When choosing a new colorway for this season, I looked to the past, specifically to a quilt that I completed back in 2019. It can be seen in this post, but I’m also showing the finished pic here for convenience.

At first I wasn’t sure how to go about recreating this group of colors for a yarn, so I put the picture through an online color analyzer, to help me get an idea of the percentages of colors present:

The 16 color analysis was the most helpful for me. Clearly I couldn’t dye that many colors, but the most useful thing was the guidance of percentages, that is, how much or how little of a color I should add when making the batt for spinning. In the end I used 9-10 colors for this yarn.
And the final yarn, 130.5 yards, Bulky weight:

It’s a real departure for me, as I’ve never done such a unisex contemporary colorway before. I liked working with something this different, the anticipation of wondering how it would appear in the final ply. I have some roving left to make more of this colorway, and I’m contemplating a different spin approach to see how that might make a difference in the final look.
Take care and thanks for reading 🙂
