Spring Shawlette

I like to have an assortment of scarves, and recently it came to my attention that the wool scarves I had were too heavy for the current season. I needed a lighter one for Spring! (The Springs are pretty cold here in the Pac NW).

A few years back I puffed up my yarn stash with some yarn that was on sale at Webs. It’s a mix of pima (high end cotton) and silk. It’s a mix of 83/17. The weight is DK. I hadn’t found a use for it up until now, when I decided I’d make myself a spring scarf with it. But I needed a pattern…..

I began searching Ravelry for a shawlette. I didn’t want a huge shawl, just something to cover my neck on cold days. I had a good time searching, as always – browsing Ravelry patterns is fun! The DK weight definitely narrowed down the choices. Many shawls are made in fingering. I finally found one I liked, that was around the size I had in mind.

This pattern is “Orbit” by Janine Kalilo. The yarn is Wildwood Yarns Tonal Pima Silk, no longer available, but still listed on the site.

I enjoyed knitting this pattern, once I got the hang of the basic repeats. I did think it could’ve been explained better though, however I can’t detail exactly what I mean without giving away the pattern I paid $8 for. I’d have to give it 4 stars for ease of understanding.

Here it is on the blocking boards:

I did need to use blocking wires for this one

And here I am modeling it:

The blue is brighter in this shot than it actually is. It’s a bit more indigo really, but this pic gives a good sense of the tonal qualities of the yarn.

Take care and thanks for reading 🙂
