I’ve been very busy during the last month, and haven’t had a chance to blog until now, hence the belated New Year’s post. What’s been keeping me so busy? Well, in addition to continuing home renovations and my own personal projects, I’m now doing contract sewing for All Things Lavender. It’s awesome working with large quantities of lavender flowers, and I’m really enjoying my work! Here’s a couple of pics of the neck pillows:

They smell as lovely as they look….lavender has a calming, refreshing effect on the mind.

In my personal creations, I’m knitting a new pair of flip flop, or tabi, as they’re called in Japan, socks. I’m using Patons Kroy Sock Yarn, which is self striping, in the Blue Raspberry colorway. I like them to be symmetrical, so I made sure to begin the second sock from the same region of color as the first. This is the first time I’m going it alone one the split toes part of the pattern – the pattern I originally used is still packed away somewhere and I couldn’t find it in time for my project. I’m learning this and writing down the entire process, so I’ll always have it, and possibly for my next published pattern. I’m also making some changes to the body of the sock pattern. I’m tailoring it for my preference of fit, which is snug. I like a close fitting sock, and I find that the basic free sock patterns that I usually work with make a sock that’s too loose fitting. Time to change that!

In other news, I finally have my own sewing room! I painted the room and laid the laminate flooring all by myself – this involved installing underlayment, using a power saw, and learning to undercut door jambs. It was a lot of work, and I’m very grateful for the experience, as they’re useful life skills to have.
That’s about it for now. I hope you’re enjoying the new year, and as always, thanks for reading 🙂
